Recipe: Classic Creamy Hot Chocolate

Perfect for chilly winter afternoons, or anytime you need a warm hug in a mug.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • 500 ml full cream milk
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 60 g dark chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows (optional but highly recommended)

Method:

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, salt and a splash (about 2 tablespoons) of the milk to make a smooth paste.
  • Slowly pour in the rest of the milk, whisking to combine.
  • Add the chopped chocolate and continue stirring gently until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth and steaming (don’t let it boil).
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a cheeky sprinkle of cocoa.

Enjoy!
